Founded in 2013 in Austin, TX as an educational charitable 501c3 nonprofit, our Mission Statement pre-pandemic was: Little Herds educates and empowers communities, both locally and globally, to support and promote the use of insects for food and feed as an environmentally sound and economically viable source of nutrition.
Since the Covid19 emergency of 2020, Little Herds has shifted focus from helping people eat insects, to just helping people eat.
Little Herds is currently co-organizing and collaborating with local incentives that are focused on supporting quality food security and accessibility to community members that need it most.
Little Herds is deeply connected to the Austin community. We are weavers and connectors playing pivotal roles in assisting other non-profits with grants, pop-up food distribution, emergency response coordination, food rescues missions, and strategic planning.
We are dedicated to creating events that are free and accessible. We are facilitators of hard conversations. We are a bridge between community partners and non-profits with the common goals of food accessibility and systems innovation.
Little Herds has been the leading organization of the Future of Food at SXSW for the past three years. In this event, we leverage our connections and skills to create a dynamic and interactive space. By doing so, we offer immersive activations while holding space for collaborative conversations that would otherwise not be visible to a general audience.
